Polished Rods
The polished rod is an important and integral part of an oil well system using a sucker rod pump. The polished rod connects the prime mover (Pumping Unit) on surface to the sucker rod string, below the wellhead. Strength is most important as the entire weight of the sucker rod string and fluid column hangs from the polished rod. The surface of the outside diameter of the polished rod has to be consistent and polished/ground to a smooth finish. This is important as the rod runs through the stuffing box on top of the wellhead. The stuffing box wipes produced oil from the polished rod on the upstroke with a cone packing. A smooth finish reduces friction and improves the life of the stuffing box packing. API, the American Petroleum Institute, dictates the parameters for the materials, finish and thread specifications to ensure proper application throughout the industry. PRL Manufacturing is an API licensed manufacturer.
A wide variety of sizes and materials are available to deal with all well conditions.
